Moving RELO delivered my family’s home to our new destination in a reasonable time and a good price. However, they added additional charges unfairly and caused unnecessary stress through poor communication.
There is a 48 hour window for your pickup time when you reserve your date. Adam, who gave ua the moving quote, told me that I would receive a call on the Friday before our move out window (Tuesday-Wednesday) and they would give us a time. Friday passed, saturday, sunday and we had heard nothing despite multiple calls in. Finally on Monday we hassled someone enough to get a time, and it was less than 24 hours before they were scheduled to come. Two guys did arrive on time, were polite and were careful with our stuff—our 2 bedroom took 3 hours to move out. Adam had told me that the people picking up my stuff would be driving it to it’s destination, and that when they picked it up they would have a sense of when it would be delivered because they were the ones driving. This was not true and the boys were amused when I mentioned this. We had to pay another 200 on top of the quote because we had larger boxes than they anticipated. Despite this we felt that our stuff was in good hands.
Adam also told us we would receive periodic updates about when our stuff would arrive. We received a text on a thread with another family that our stuff was in transit but without any estimation of the delivery date. It was a cross country move so we had not idea how many days or weeks “in transit” meant. Both families responded to the text with questions and were ignored. We then received a phone call with 24 hours notice of delivery, and we figured out how to have someone be there to receive our move.
An hour before the scheduled time of delivery, the driver informed us that he was unwilling to park on our street because it would block traffic and he would get a ticket, and that it was going to cost us 800 to shuttle our boxes to the host. There is no street in our entire neighborhood that a stopped CAR wouldn’t block traffic, and this fee should have been disclosed since the beginning since we supplied them with our destination address from the beginning. Our landlord assured us that the neighbors were ok with trucks blocking traffic because they understand that people need to move in and out of their neighborhood, so we tried to convince the driver Alec it would be ok for him to park there to unload. Alec refused and was rude on the phone. He said, “you pay the fee or your stuff goes into storage.”
They charged us 650 for the shuttles, I don’t know why, and we agreed to pay, because what choice did we have? We need our boxes delivered. Alex was very hard to reach on the phone this entire time multiple people had to called multiple times to reach him. Alec arrived and was incredibly rude and unaccommodating. He dropped a suitcase on our friends leg and he and the other mover worked very slowly.
All in all, even with the fee, this company cost less than some of the others we looked at. But moving is already stressful enough without your moving company jerking you around. You want a company that is communicative, accurate in their information, and doesn’t try to put extra fees on your delivery. I would not recommend Moving RELO, and I frankly don’t understand all these positive reviews, considering the multiple issues we had through the process. I think these reviews are fake.
If moving RELO refunded our shuttle fee I would change this review, because the rest of the details were just lack of attention, not neglect. We spoke to AJ on the phone about the shuttle fee and he explained the street situation respectfully. But we should have been informed of this fee from the beginning, and dealing with the delivery guy Alec through the process was extremely unpleasant.
