How a $7600 estimate became a $22,600 bill. Moving to work at a nonprofit in Chicago, I had to cover the relocation cost for me and my family, so I did some bidding. Lucas Wood ([email protected]) at CalState (Impala is a sub of CalState) gave me a “binding moving estimate” of $7600, which included a number of discounts. I provided Lucas with a detailed inventory of what was being moved, and included videos of our apartment and storage unit to make sure there weren’t any surprises. They seemed legit, so we hired them and gave a deposit of a little over $2000. Three days before the move, Michael Stone ([email protected]) in quality assurance called and walked thru the details. He knew nothing of what I provided Lucas. Either that or Lucas didn’t accurately assess the move. At the end of our call, the estimate jumped to $18,000!!!! I tried to find another moving company to move us on the same date since our lease and travel plans were locked, but nobody could do it as quickly as we needed. I provided the binding estimate to other movers, who said they could do the job at $9000 if we could wait a week ... which we couldn’t. Knowing this would destroy our savings, we reluctantly signed and gave an additional $3000 to the deposit. The day of the move, the team showed up in a truck smaller than we were promised, and the foreman had no clue about any discussions I had with Mike Stone. For example, Mike said the first flight of stairs are free; the foreman said it would cost extra. Mike said that boxing up our computer and TV screens would be comp’d; the foreman said they were additional charges. To add to the confusion, the team was from Impala Van Lines, which means CalState is a broker even though they advertise differently. The team worked hard and well, but the smaller truck meant they filled the truck before they were done. They had to drive to storage in order to offload half our contents to make room for the rest of our apartment. To add insult to injury, the foreman came up with an additional $4000 in charges to push the cost past $22k! My wife and I were almost in tears as that represents years of savings. I’m trying to negotiate with Mike Stone and hope to edit this review with an ending that isn’t as horrible ... to be continued.
We used Impala Moving for our move from Los Angeles to San Diego and couldn’t be happier with the service. They made the whole process go smooth and stress free, the crew was polite, courteous and extremely professional and took care of our life possessions as if they’re their own, not a single damage to our property and great attitude throughout a long and very hot day. Good job, Impala! Thank you for a great experience!
Lost $14K of my personal belongings in storage and a cross country move and have been TERRIBLE TO DEAL WITH. Incredibly rude movers. All furniture items were damaged upon arrival, they literally left my mattress out in the rain and it ripped. Lost my $2K bike. I still have yet to be refunded. They honestly should be shut down for how terribly they treat their customers. Whatever you can, avoid this moving company like the plague. Their name has changed multiple times throughout the whole process – I originally booked with Global Moving Company. NO ONE WHO I SPOKE WITH could tell me where my items had been and they had no system in place to track the storage and subsequent loss of my items. Lied multiple times about who was the manager, when they would be calling me back. Clearly no respect for people and their items. Miserable employees and management, miserable "company" (again, I think this is a fake company because the service is just that terrible), miserable customer service.
I hired Impala Van lines last week to help my family relocate from San Francisco to San Diego California . The crew was very nice and polite , they worked very hard packing and loading our 3 bedroom apartment . However there cs rep Melisa was not so nice over the phone , she refuse to give us a specific date for our delivery . I understand that it is hard in this industry to give out times due to traffic whether etc .. but still she was rude . I end up getting my stuff on time and with no damages so pretty much this move went well . I will recommend this company to anyone who is trying to relocate !! .
Although this is posted very late, my wife and I wanted to comment on the service we received from Impala Van Lines. We moved from South CA to Denver Colorado and it was the BEST moving experience we have ever encountered. We had no problems with damages, the moving truck arrived at both location when promised, the actual driver Alex was the best. There is not one negative thing we could say. We would use them again without hesitation.
I used Impala Van lines to move my 1 bedroom apartment from Los Angels to Las Vegas last Wensday . The move went well price went up by 40$ ( they pack my TV ) and delivery arrive 3 days after . All in all can’t say anything bad .
